There is a new open mic in town at The Tavern in the Old Market. Big Al attended the first one last week and sent me some video of his performance. It looks as if the artists are in front of the windows that go out to 10th Street, and it looks like a nice backdrop visually. The night is hosted by Yayo Trujillo of the band Las Cruxes and lists singer-songwriter, poetry, spoken word and mixed arts among those invited to take the stage. The event goes from 9PM to Midnight with 15 minute slots for the artists. To sign up you can comment on their Facebook event here or DM Meghan Mackenzie Bayne.
Here is a link to my somewhat recent article on Open Mic Nights in The Reader. I was told that Dry Spokes is no longer doing an open mic night, but I think the rest of the information on those nights is still accurate.
Make sure to check this post for the weekly calendar to see what is happening around town this week, and get a previews of all the great shows happening at The Jewell this week and also the big Margo Price show at The Waiting Room this evening.
